Before and After Dental Photos - Smile Makeovers

The top photo shows a tooth with staining in the grooves which opened up to cavities in the grooves and I replaced them with white composite filling. White fillings are a great way to disguise dental work.

My patient came in with half her crown broken. She had sensitivity to cold which is very common when the dentin (2nd layer of the tooth) is exposed. I removed the old crown and replaced it with a new custom crown. Now it looks like nothing ever happened!

The picture on top is a molar with cavities on 2 grooves of the tooth. It will look like a stain on the top surface but when you place an instrument on it, the surface will be soft and the instrument will sink in. The cavities are cleaned out and replaced with white/ composite fillings.

My patient had broken roots tips of teeth in the back and the two teeth towards front had sever infection and needed to be removed. The teeth marked with an X were removed. Then I suture the area so it will heal faster. Then I placed the immediate partial to replace the missing teeth. After she heals she will receive permanent partials.

My patient wanted to get new partials to replace her old ones. Her old partials made her naturalsmile distorted and deepened her smile lines/wrinkle. Her front two teeth was placed toward the left. She had lost a lot of bone so making a partial for her was challenging. In cases like this, I take the extra time to make sure that the patient's concerns are addressed. I make sure that I am in constant contact with my dental lab to make sure that the final product is what the patient wanted. The new partials not only brightens up her face but it gives her a youthful appearance by making her smile symmetrical. She was happy with the results and that made me happy.

This is a zoom whitening treatment that takes 1 hour in the dental chair and it can transform your smile!

The top picture is with the cavity removed and there is very little tooth structure left. It is missing one of the cusp because of the extensive decay. It looks brown because the bacteria stains the inside layer of the tooth but it is hard and healthy structure. The second picture is the build up of the tooth and is ready for a crown to protect the remaining tooth.

Fixing a cavity from start to finish!

1) Tooth that had a stain on it but is hard on the top surface. 2) When you open up the top layer of enamel then you will see that it is a crater. The brown is the decay or cavity which is filled with bacteria. 3) Is the cleaned out tooth without bacteria. 4) I placed a beautiful white filling. Making it look like nothing ever happened to that tooth.

Immediate implants - when you take a tooth out and place an implant the same day. 1) fractured tooth 2) extraction/ removal 3) placing the implant 4) implant shown in the tooth socket

Awesome crown match to the patient's natural teeth! The Red arrow is a tooth that had a root canal more than 20 years ago and was cover with a silver filling. It turned the tooth grayish in color. The old filling was removed and the tooth was built up to a proper height and shaped for a crow n.

My patient came in with a broken silver filling that had a cavity under it. The top is a picture of the tooth with the cavity and filling removed. The bottom is the tooth reconstructed to the original form with a white filling. Looks beautiful and natural.

My patient had a cavity that was on the gum line (red arrow). The picture in the middle shows what the tooth looks like after I removed the decay. Then I finished the treatment with a white composite filling that blends right into the natural tooth. These types of cavities are called cervical caries. They mainly happen when you have plaque (food/bacteria/minerals) on the gum line that can cause the breakdown of the enamel. I have even seen children get these types of cavities when the keep hard candies in their cheek over long periods of time.

The before picture are fractured amalgam (silver) fillings that has decay under it. You can see it in the picture after the amalgam is removed. Then the two teeth are built up with composite filings as seen in the after picture. Looks fresh and clean!

Zoom Whitening. My patient changed from A3 shade to B1 in one hour in the dental office.

FIXING A GUMMY SMILE-This is a braces case that is still in progress. My patient wanted to change her smile because she showed a lot of gum. The top photo with red lines is her before picture with 4.5mm of gum showing and notice the bottom photo with 1 mm of gum showing when she smiles. Traditionally a surgeon would have to impact the maxilla (top jaw) to achieve these results. This requires surgery, an overnight hospital stay, immobilizing the jaw (jaws wired closed) and 8 weeks of recovery. Now we have a new treatment available using skeletal anchorage where 2 pins are placed by the canines root and a coil is suspended to the braces. Placing the pins only requires numbing of the area and no down time required. And within 6 months you can get this get rid of a gummy smile.

My patient came in with exposed root surfaces (red arrows). It was causing him a lot of pain when he had cold food and water. He wanted a quick fix to the problem so I recommended composite (white) fillings. He was very happy with results. He is coming back in for 6 veneers at a later date. When I will do the veneers for him, I will make his tooth size look smaller by adding a pink shade to the top of the veneer so that will match his gums. That will give him a natural look.

My patient came in with a broken amalgam (silver) filling. The filling was broken past the gum line so we removed the old filling. We replaced it with a core material and prepared the tooth for the crown, which is the picture in the middle. The last picture is of the crown cemented in place. When she smiled she always noticed that the back teeth were gray in color. This is due to the old amalgam filling. Now she feels that she has a brighter smile because the crown made her back teeth appear whiter.

Zoom whitening. In one hour my patient went from A3 shade to B1 shade (the whitest natural shade possible). On her lower tooth, you can see a small brown mark which was a difficult coffee stain to remove and the whitening treatment completely removed the stain.

This is a before and after of a routine cleaning. This is what calculus looks like on the back of lower teeth. It is usually yellow or brown in color. After the cleaning, there is sometimes a slight redness of the gums from the removal of calculus which is normal. Calculus is made of bacteria, food products and minerals from your saliva. It sticks to your tooth and becomes hard over time. This makes it very difficult to clean with a toothbrush. The direct contact with calculus causes your gum to become inflamed and red in color. So during a dental cleaning, I use an ultrasonic tip to gently remove the calculus. After the calculus is removed the gums starts its healing process. It will return back to a pink color and will appear smooth within 1-3 days if the patient doesn't have periodontal disease. Getting a dental cleaning every six months is extremely important to maintain oral health. I advise a 3-4 month recall dental cleaning in patients who have periodontal disease.

Changing out old fillings are necessary when cavities start forming around the margin of the filling and go underneath the filling.
